Mahatma Gandhi's granddaughter has been convicted of fraud and forgery. Ashish Lata Ramgobin, 56, is accused of cheating more than Rs 60 lakh. He was sentenced by a Durban court in South Africa to seven years in prison.






Lata Ramgobin is the daughter of famous activist Ila Gandhi and the late Mewa Ramgobind. Lata is accused of cheating with businessman SR Maharaj. The Durban Special Commercial Crimes Court has also refused to allow him to appeal the sentence.

Ashish Lata Ramgobin alleges that S.R. The Maharaja gave him about Rs. 62 lakh in advance for the amount of goods in India for import and duty. Ashish Lata Gobi also spoke of giving a share to the Maharaj in that profit. The trial against Lata Ramgobin began in 2015. According to Brigadier Hungwani Mulaudji of the National Prosecution Authority (NPA), Lata had given fake bills and documents to potential investors. In this way, he wanted to explain to the investors that 3 containers of flax were being sent from India.
