Clashes broke out between security forces and Naxalites in Bijpur in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. 5 jawans have been martyred in this incident. One Cobra jawan, two Bastaria battalion jawans and two DRG jawans were killed in the clash which lasted for more than three hours. Three Naxalites, including a woman, were also shot dead. Twelve soldiers were injured in the clash. SP Kamal Lochan Kashyap has confirmed the incident.

The attacks escalated after a proposal for peace talks was sent
The Naxals had on March 17 submitted a proposal to the government for peace talks. The Naxalites also said that they were ready to negotiate with the Chhattisgarh government for the welfare of the people. He also introduced three conditions for communication. These include the removal of the armed forces, the lifting of sanctions on Maoist organizations, and the unconditional release of imprisoned leaders.
