Inspirational Journey: Chetan Sakaria, son of Bhavnagar tempo driver, sold for Rs 1.2 crore, will play for Indian captain Virat Kohli's team RCB.

Saurashtra fast bowler Chetan Sakaria has been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 1.2 crore. He talked about his cricketing journey in a recent interview with Divyabhaskar. Chetan, a member of the Sakaria family from Vartej village, had a keen interest in cricket since childhood.

but at one stage financial constraints shattered his dream of cricket, but Chetan's mama Mansukhbhai gave him a part-time job and continued playing cricket. Simply, Chetan has not looked back from here and this time became an hot property in the IPL auction. The 22-year-old fast bowler took 12 wickets this time in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with an economy rate of 4.90.

Talking about his journey, Chetan said, “I started playing at the age of 13-14. My dad (Kanjibhai) was running the tempo and mum (Varshaben) is the house wife. I was good at teaching from an early age and the family wanted me to study and go ahead and become an officer. I have passed 12 sciences but have not been able to study further.

Became a fast bowler by copying Junaid Khan's action Yuvraj Singh is my favorite player and I idolize him. Although I became a fast bowler, the story behind it is different. When the Pakistan team came to India in 2010, Junaid Khan bowled very well. He bowled many of our stars, including Virat Kohli. Then I was very impressed with that bowling and became a fast bowler rather than copying his action. Went to copy his action and it became an action of my own.

I used to go home to play cricket without eating, I also ate a lot to play cricket, I also dropped out in 12th. I was very upset at that time and I ate a lot. I also skipped the board exam for district matches and dropped out. However, the matches at that time were not good enough to be selected in the state team. I will never forget that Bhavsinhji Cricket Club waived my fee.

Trained under McGraw at MRF Academy
"I trained at the MRF Academy in Chennai under veteran Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath. He was impressed with my pace and swing and taught me how to swing the ball consistently at 130." Chetan also became Man of the Series in the Saurashtra Premier League. He took 12 wickets in 5 league matches. Defending 7 runs in a game, he took a hat-trick to help his team win the match.

Remained as a net bowler with RCB in IPL 2020
"RCB offered me to join the team as a net bowler," Chetan said. We will take the net bowlers together and replace them if anyone is injured during the season.

I said yes and contracted with my RCB as a net bowler. Stayed in Dubai for 2.5 months, learned a lot there. Had a good time with Dale Steyn. Learned field tactics. Simon Katich also helped me. When you bowl to Virat Kohli or AB de Villiers, confidence comes from within that you belong to this stage. The reason I got success in Syed Mushtaq Ali is because I spent time with RCB and learned a lot in the meantime.
